Today's been a drag 😜

Like, literally, today has been a drag!

Who knew just how much effort goes into this style of makeup????? And trying to follow an online lecture while also making sure your kids don't kill each other has proven very trying indeed.

First up, blocking the brows, I didn't have any hand soap or brow soap to hand so went for the gel spray and Disposable spoolies instead. This did do the trick, my brows are fairly invisible to start with so this part wasn't too tricky for me, however if I did have thicker and darker brows I'm not sure if the gel spray would have worked, soap would have been a better and safer alternative to use on clients as we all know hair products aren't meant to be used on your face 🙈

Next up I used Kryolan creme liner in snow, this product is one of my absolute favourites, a little bit goes a long way and it's so easy to blend and gives a buildable coverage. I patted the product on and blended using my fingers, to create a false brow bone I used a fine angled brush to create the sharp lines. I tried to use a thicker brush at first but this didn't give me the sharp lines I wanted so I used the fine angled brush instead. I applied the creme liner all over my lids as a base and powdered with translucent powder. Other products I could have used for this include things such as white kohl eyeliner, this may take a while and drag the delicate skin on the eyelid when using it on such a large area, however if using a really sharp pencil the lines would be sharp. If I was to do this again I would try using a liner to create the sharp edge and use PLouise eye base to cover the lid to really make the eyeshadow pop.

Creating a higher crease line! I have never done this type of dramatic eye look before, so this part was tricky for me. I knew I wanted a purple and pink look but haven't got those colours in a liner. I opted for a purple shadow and used a fine brush to apply the crease. The line wasn't as fine as I wanted it to be and it wasn't as vivid and dark as I wanted it to be. In future I would definitely use a liner or add some mixing medium to the powder to create a more vivid shade. I also struggled with knowing exactly where to create the crease and feel like I did it too close to my brow bone. I don't have a lot of lid space to work with 😭 if I was working on a client rather than on myself I think that this would be easier to create as you can see symettry better and at different angles than you can while practicing on yourself.

It's all about the blend, blending colour into the crease line and adding shade, this step took me much longer than it does when I watch others do it on Instagram 😂 I was adding, blending, adding, blending, adding and still it didn't seem to be looking as good as I wanted it to. This could be down to my crease line not being dark enough for me to start with and the transition colour I choose was very similar to the crease colour. It would have been better to darken the crease line so that the transition shade blended easier.

Brows! I found this part easier than the eyeshadow, I followed my natural lower brow and then brought it upwards along the false brow bone, I used a brow powder and tidied around the edges with a brow pencil. A pomade and really fine brush would possibly give a sharper edge to the brow but I do like the look and shape I created.

After a whole lot of foundation, contour and highlight the base was complete! I used a much heavier contour than I usually would, I used a darker shade of foundation for this as well as a dark bronzing powder to create the final look. I finally looked like I had cheekbones, maybe something I will use more when I do get the chance to go out again!

For lashes I used fluffy, thick lashes at the top and a more natural but long lash on the bottom. I had to cut down the bottom lashes to get the shape that I wanted and used liner to create the open eye cateye shape. The bottom lashes definitely added to the drama of this look. I love how the liner make my eyes appear larger and again this is definitely something I will use on a scaled down version the next time I do my own makeup.

As we all know I don't have big lips, so had to really emphasise the top lip to create this look, I went for a nude shade lip liner to create the fuller lip and then used a gloss in the centre to create the illusion of a fuller lip. I found this part difficult, I couldn't see if the lips were symmetrical as I would usually check on my clients and I personally don't like the fuller lip look on myself. This is probably due to it being different from my usual makeup but this look is definitely not my usual look!

I've loved creating this fun look, can't believe how much time it took and my kids thought I looked hilarious! I would love to try this again on a male model and see how the different facial shape and features of the male face have an impact on how the makeup is applied and the contour and highlight that would differ.

Any volunteers after lockdown????? My son won't let me practice on him 🙄
