Domestic Violence Awareness

Now this is a subject very close to my heart ♥️

Not many people know that I spent years in a toxic relationship, not just once but on two seperate occasions.

You would think that I had learned to spot the red flags from the first time round but I was young and in love and so many more factors that go through your head when you are faced with an abusive relationship.

Now as a beauty and makeup professional I work with lots of women and build excellent relationships with them, relationships where I hope they would trust me, where I could hopefully spot any signs that they might need support or advice on what to do in a situation that they feel they can't get out of.

Today I've completed training online, provided by Barbicide and Shear Haven on how to help spot those signs and I've learnt so much more about domestic violence than I already knew!

The truth is that the number of people affected by domestic violence isn't getting any lower! And due to lockdown conditions it's been easier for the intimate partner to isolate their other half from everyone around them. One of the biggest warning signs of domestic abuse is the partner isolating their partner from friends, family, even work or salon appointments. And with covid it's made that a whole lot easier to do.

This training has only embedded in me what I already knew and that is that it anyone, whether it be a client, a friend, a family member or a complete stranger wants to confide in me their issues, then I am here! I will listen, not judge or criticise, and will offer support when they are ready to accept it. Because I know how hard that first step is, when you feel that you are well and truly trapped in a situation forever. But trust me there is help available, and we as close contact services can be the first to spot those signs and provide support.

If you're reading this and it's affected you, there is help available, here are some links to support available in the UK.

Call Refuge’s National Domestic Abuse Helpline for free and confidential advice, 24 hours a day on 0808 2000 247. Visit the helpline website to access further information, a contact form and the live chat service. If you are in immediate danger, call 999 and ask for the police.
